Panasonic new tough compact camera DMC-TS3 vs old TS1

Panasonic new tough compact camera DMC-TS3 is now even more suitable for snapshot with the Quick AF function. Ordinary AF is activated when the shutter button is pressed half-way, while the Quick AF starts operating as soon as the camera is pointed toward a subject. This dramatically reduces the shutter delay time and lets you take images quickly. Its super-fast focus is ideal for capturing quick images of active children and pets. By setting the camera to the Quick AF, images of sudden shooting opportunities won't be out of focus or blurry.

The Quick AF is automatically turned on in the iA Mode and can be turned on or off in the P/A/S/M Mode, but it does not work together with the AF Tracking and the focus speed may be slower in dark surroundings.

There are several reviews on Amazon. I like the orange one, the red one also looks good and the blue one is stylish, but their color is too conspicuous compare with my silver TS1. User feedback on DC Fever reported that it can receive GPS signal even in 3 meters water.

For more effective countermeasure against blur, the Active Mode is newly equipped with DMC-TS3 for an option of image stabilization in movie recording. This mode is especially effective in active movie recording such as shooting while walking.

TS1 is the most beautiful tough camera in my opinion, and Olympus Tough series cameras are also good especially the new TG810.
Sony TX10 is tough enough, much smaller in size, has much better image quality, but it has no GPS, compass and altimeter, and its former member TX5 has the problem that the skin of the casing can be easily peeled off.

Though the image quality is inferior to Sony TX , but it is the smallest usable camera among my gears, I carry the TS camera much more often and sometimes got good macro photos.
